The core idea
A deployment target defines which APIs, execution limits and bindings are available. Framework adapters translate application behaviour into that environment, but dependencies may still assume a different filesystem, process model or network capability. Keep the current framework and hosting documentation close to the project, and verify the actual production artifact rather than only the development server.
A practical approach
Step 1
Inventory the application features that touch runtime services: files, background work, database connections, image handling and environment variables.
Step 2
Check the selected adapter and platform documentation for supported behaviour. Preserve working configuration unless a measured requirement justifies changing it.
Step 3
Build the deployable artifact and exercise representative routes in the target-compatible runtime, including errors and static assets.
Worked example
A Next.js application can render correctly in development while a dependency expects a writable persistent local directory. On a runtime without that persistence model, uploads need an appropriate storage service instead. The issue is architectural, not a CSS or routing problem.
A mistake to avoid
Copying configuration from an old tutorial can introduce assumptions that no longer match the adapter version. Pin and record the versions used, then consult the current official guide before changing runtime-specific settings.
Try it yourself
List five runtime assumptions in your application. For each, identify the production capability that satisfies it and a route or operation that verifies it after packaging.
Your implementation checklist
- Runtime assumptions are documented.
- Adapter guidance matches the installed version.
- The packaged artifact is exercised.
- Persistent data uses an appropriate service.
